Kasese High Court Circuit Holds Second RCC Meeting

Kasese High Court Circuit held its Regional Coordination Committee meeting which was hosted by Justice for Children at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese District on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by the Resident Judge, Justice David S.L. Makumbi and moderated by the Deputy Registrar HW Nkwasibwe Ivan.

The Resident Judge thanked them for participating and supporting the launch of Kasese High Court Circuit which took place earlier this month.

He further appreciated the regional stakeholders for their commitment to their respective duties regardless of the logistical challenges.

Justice Makumbi noted that Kasese has a number of criminal matters but was glad the Criminal sessions held at the circuit had helped in decongesting of Mubuku Govt Prison.

The Resident Judge's communication followed by presentation of Departmental Reports from the Chief Magistrate, Chief Administrative Officer Kasese District, Regional Attorney General's Chambers, Regional Office of the DPP, Representative of Advocates, Representatives of Police, Prisons, International Justice Mission, Community Service, Justice Centers, and Justice For Children.

There was also sharing of the best practices and way forward on the different challenges raised such as coordination of legal aid service providers to ensure representation of people that cannot afford legal representation, cause-listing cases by Friday of every week and sharing the cause-list early on all platforms to ensure that parties prepare for their cases early enough.

The others included ensuring that court starts on time, conducting regular stakeholder meetings within the region, sensitization of the general public on Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms and its advantages, and encouraging good customer care practices by court staff.

The office of the RDC Kasese District also provided radio airtime to different stakeholders to easily sensitize the public on the different legal processes.
